Blaine McLeod MLA Lumsden-Morse

Legislative Report
April 22, 2026

Saskatchewan continues to move forward with targeted investments and initiatives that strengthen health care, support innovation, and grow the economy. These efforts are focused on delivering practical results for people and communities across the province.

Momentum in the province’s economy remains steady, supported by strong performance in trade and ongoing collaboration across key sectors. The recent Food, Fuel and Fertilizer Global Summit highlighted Saskatchewan’s role in global trade diversification and economic security. The event brought together leaders from around the world to discuss opportunities in agriculture, energy and fertilizer production, while reinforcing the importance of expanding markets and strengthening long-term economic resilience in a competitive global environment.

Alongside these discussions, work continues to strengthen innovation and support emerging industries. Innovation Saskatchewan is expanding the Saskatchewan Technology Startup Incentive program to help accelerate life sciences innovation in the province. This expansion will support early-stage companies, attract new investment, and help turn Saskatchewan research and ideas into real-world solutions, reinforcing the province’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and commercialization. More information on STSI program guidelines and eligibility is available at the Innovation Saskatchewan website.

Energy planning is another key part of ensuring Saskatchewan is prepared for the future. SaskPower and Bruce Power have signed a memorandum of understanding to support Saskatchewan’s ongoing assessment of large nuclear reactor technology. As electricity demand continues to grow, this work ensures the province is responsibly exploring long-term options to maintain a reliable, affordable and secure power system while planning ahead for future needs.

In health care, progress continues through initiatives focused on improving access, services and patient outcomes. A new organ and tissue awareness campaign has been launched to encourage more residents to register and have important conversations with their families about donation. This initiative highlights the life-saving impact of organ and tissue donation and the difference it can make for patients and families across the province. Anyone over the age of 16 is eligible to register their decision to be an organ and tissue donor. More information is available through the Saskatchewan Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.

Access to specialized care is also improving through recent developments in breast health services. The Regina Breast Health Centre recently marked its one-year anniversary, reflecting improved access to diagnostic services and a more patient-focused model of care. The centre has helped reduce wait times and improve the overall patient experience, ensuring more women can receive timely assessment and care closer to home.

Health system modernization continues as well, with updates to The Medical Profession Act aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight. These changes help modernize processes, support high standards of care, and ensure the system continues to adapt to evolving needs while maintaining trust, accountability, and quality in medical practice.

Communities across Saskatchewan are also being recognized during National Volunteer Week. This is a time to celebrate the many volunteers whose time and dedication strengthen local organizations, support community events and help neighbours in need. Our government would like to thank those people who make such a steadfast commitment to their communities and make life better in our province. If you are looking for opportunities to volunteer in Saskatchewan, visit the Volunteer Connector website or contact a local organization to see if they are in need of volunteers.

Your Saskatchewan Party government will continue focusing on practical investments that strengthen the economy, improve health care access, support innovation and build safer, stronger communities across the province.
